While you may have some disagreement with the humanist ideals and the overall vision (it is TED, after all), Jacques gives a good summary: China is an old, old land and as its economy is projected to grow larger than the U.S. economy by 2020 (as of now). Its identity, unlike the U.S. and Indian identities is not multicultural, but much more racially homogenous (the Han dynasty has kept China together). Also, the role of individual freedom is much less…and the spheres of influence and relation between the individual and the State are much more intertwined.
