From Megan McArdle: ‘Emergency Rooms: The Canary in the Health Care Coal Mine’

Full post here.

McArdle’s huband Peter Suderman at Reason is covering health-care well; perhaps it’s rubbing off.  She links to an article that discusses ER wait times in Canada.

‘On Monday, Auditor General Jim McCarter released his annual report which found that despite putting an extra $200 million into shortening emergency room wait times over the last two years, “significant province-wide progress has not yet been made.’

Aim for abstract idea of fairness and you might well get longer wait times, bureaucracy resistant to change, less efficient service etc.  How did this get passed into law again?

Increasing federal spending will rein in health-care costs?
